Werdau Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, on a base Gules masoned Sable an arch Gules, under the arch a bishop dressed Gules with mitre of the same and crozier Or in bend, in front of him a sinister facing hind salient Maron tierced by an arrow Sable.
Located in the Lordship of Schönfels Werdau was first called a city in 1304. The lordship was ruled by the Reeves of Plauen and since 1398 by the Margraves of Meißen. The arms are based on the oldest city seal from 1403, which already displayed St. Giles, patron saint of the first local parish church, which finally lost this status in 1629. The hind was added in 1480, known by an architectural sclupture. Since 1580 the saint is displayed as statant.
