Waging had been a market town of minor importance within the Archbishopric of Salzburg. Together with Rupert's Corner (German: Rupertiwinkel) it was finally acquired by Bayern in 1816. The pattern displaying St. Martin, the local patron saint, and the beggar was already displayed on the oldest town seal from the 17th century. The pattern was adopted also in newer seals, but the direction of the group was changed.

The arms are in use since the 17th century. The banner has never been approved officially.
