Idar-Oberstein Coat of Arms

Shield Argent a forester´s hook Gules in pale, flanked on dexter chief by a heraldic rose Gules seeded Or and barbed Vert and on sinister base by an acorn Gules.
The municipalities of Idar and Oberstein belonged to the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg until 1937. Both gained city rights in 1865 and were united in 1933. The arms combine elements of the former seals of both cities. The former used a seal since 1923, which displayed the hook, also called wolf trap, together with two roses. It was based on a court seal from the 18th century. ts 1st seal however displayed the scene with St. Martin and the beggar. Oberstein gained proper arms in 1906, based on a court seal from 1618, which displayed an oak, a wolf trap, a red acorn and a red initial "O".

The date of approval of the banner is unknown, but it is in use since before 1966. The arms were approved on 10 July 1934 by Minister of Interior of Oldenburg.
