About the Flag

(Pirate Party Switzerland)

The Pirate Party Switzerland is the Swiss franchise of the international Pirate Party movement. It was founded in 2009. It is neither represented in the federal nor in the cantonal parliaments.

The party symbol is the usual sail in a circle. The main colour is orange, defined as Pantone 137 [1].

The flags are orange with the party symbol and the party name (in white and black). The flags come in two versions: a beach flag version (that adds the party URL in black) [2,3,4,5,6,7] and a table banner version [8].

The flag which combines the party symbol with the party name inscribed in two languages - German and French - is offered for sale at the party online shop (photo: No other photos of this flag have been found online so far, so it is probably still not widely used, but it obviously exists.

The cantonal section of Aargau has become independent from the federal party in 2013 as Piratenpartei Aargau (PPAG). However, at least part of the symbolism has stayed the same. The party symbol is a clever combination of the Aargau coat-of-arms with the Pirate sail, the latter in orange.

The PPAG has procured a table banner in 2014, showing the party emblem with the party name (in orange, black and blue) on a white field [8,9,10].
