Description of the flag

Unequal triband of red, white and red charged on the white area with a local badge. This consists of an ogival white shield outlined in black showing an open book above a dormouse, both also outlined in black; below the shield the lettering "Never say die" in red italic sans capitals.

Aklavik (meaning "barren-ground grizzly place"), with a population of 727 (as of 1996), is located at 6813'N lat. and 13500'W long., in the NW end NWT on the Mackenzie delta. Local languages are Gwich'in, Inuvialuktun and English, and the community belongs to the electoral district of Mackenzie-Delta and to the land claim area of Gwich'i.
