It is a fairily typical portuguese municipal flag,
with the coat of arms centered on a white
and blue gyronny (city rank) background. This flag and arms were adopted
and published in the official journal

The arms are Vert issuant from a campaign wavy wavy
Argent and Azure a two-towered suspension bridge Argent masoned and litten
Sable and on chief a cogwheel Or surrounded by two bundles of rye of
four ears each Or tied Argent. Mural crown argent with five visible towers
(town rank) and white scroll reading in black
upper case letters "Trofa".

recently it’s western half made the new municipality of Trofa.

"Trofa" comes from Arabic for "frontier", wich is not depicted in
the arms. These in turn show the local drawbridge.
