Flag

Located in Inagi City Tokyo and established in 1993. The embroidered ceremonial flag has dark red background with a gold and silver emblem and vertically written in gold kanji university name in gold fringe. The university emblem is the Eiheiji temple emblem surrounded by an eight-pointed mirror frame. The Eiheiji temple emblem is also the emblem of the Kuga family, the birthplace of Eiheiji's founder, Zenji Dogen. The design is of a "gentian" , with its flowers and leaves arranged in a radial pattern from a central point. Because of its wheel-like shape, it is also called "Kuruma-ryundo" wheel gentian" but in Soto Zen Buddhism it is generally called "Koga-gentian. The neat, light-purple beauty of the gentian blooming in the fields and mountains and its graceful appearance are a reminder of the integrity of Zen master Dogen.
