Flag

Located in Nagoya City Aichi Prefecture and established in 1949. The university flag has a navy blue background with a carmine, green and white emblem in the center. The current university emblem, a carmine cross with a white lily in the center, was devised by Yoichi Ichimura, then headmaster of the university, based on a winning design submitted by the public in 1920, and inspired by the German Iron Cross in the Standard Dictionary. In religious terms, the cross symbolizes Christ's atonement and the white lilies his resurrection. In moral terms, the carmine cross represents sincerity, sacrifice, and service, and the white lily the virtue of purity.
