Located in Kamakura City Kanagawa Prefecture and established in 1959. The embroidered university flag has dark red background with a gold, silver and green emblem in gold fringe. The university vertical long flag has maroon background with a yellow, white and green emblem in the center. (Source) The university emblem was designed by Chieko Matsumoto, the wife of the founder of the university and the lyricist of the school anthem and student song, using the three sacred weapons of Japanese mythology as a motif, in accordance with the wishes of the founder, Seita Matsumoto, and the educational system "harmony of moral education, intellectual education and physical education" that thinkers of the past and present have sought. On the occasion of its 60th anniversary, the English university name "KAMAKURA WOMEN'S UNIVERSITY" and the Latin words "GRATIA ET MINISTERIUM," meaning "gratitude and service," which is the philosophy of education, were added in a circle.
