Presentation of Sveti Ivan Zelina

The town of Sveti Ivan Zelina (16,268 inhabitants in 2001, 2,272 in the town of Sveti Ivan Zelina) has its name often shortened to Zelina, which was its official name from 1945 to 1990. Sveti Ivan (St. John) is the town's patron saint.

Flag of Sveti Ivan Zelina

The symbols of Sveti Ivan Zelina are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Grada Sv. Ivana Zeline, adopted on 28 September 2005 by the Town Assembly and published the same day in the local official gazette Zelinske Novine, No. 14.
The choice of the symbols was made by Zakljucak o odabiru likovnog rješenja grba i zastave Grada Svetog Ivana Zeline, adopted on 15 December 2004 by the Town Assembly and published the same day in Zelinske Novine, No. 14.

The flag is white with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.
The current graphic depiction is credited to Ms. Lada Vlainić, from Zagreb. However, it seems that Ms. Vlainić proposed a differently coloured flag, that was made white by the Town Assembly.
The flag is also used vertically (photo), with the town's name inscribed in red in two rows, above and below the coat of arms.

Sveti Ivan Zelina readopted the historical coat of arms that was in use anyway more or less steadily. The aforementioned Decision determines the coat of arms as "Gules a mullet or over a crescent argent".
According to Lašovski [lsv39] this coat of arms appears, uncolored, on a 1848 seal of the town, which gained its municipal rights already in 1328. The coloring appear in Lašovski's book. An alternative version of the coat of arms showing a field divided per pale picturing St. John and the field with mullet and crescent was also used (unofficially?) in the early 1990s.

HK Zelina (website) won the Croatian championship in 2000-2001 and 2015-2016.
The flag of HK Zelina (photo) is horizontally divided green-white with the club emblem, counterchanged, in the centre. The emblem is a circular seal with the club name inscribed in green between two concentric green circles and, in the centre, two green hockey sticks in saltire, a green ball in the base and the year "1955" inscribed in green in chief. On the flag, the upper half of the emblem elements is white, of course. The inscribed year must be the year of the club establishment.
