Presentation of Trilj

The Town of Trilj (10,799 inhabitants in 2001, 2,381 in the town of Trilj) is located inlands, some 30 km due east of Split across the channel. Trilj was granted the Town Status in 1998.

Flag of Trilj

The symbols of Trilj are described in the Town Statutes Statut Grada Trilja (text), adopted on 13 July 2009 by the Town Assembly and published in the Town official gazette Slubeni glasnik Grada Trilja, No. 3.

The flag of Trilj is described in Article 6 of the Statutes as in proportions 1:2, blue with the coat of arms in the middle.

The flag is blue with a white bordered coat of arms in the middle. The flags in use have very different shades of blue for the flag leaf and the background of the coat of arms, ranging from pale blue to very dark blue in various combinations. The border around the coat of arms, which is prescribed in white, is also yellow in the pax.

Coat of arms of Trilj

The coat of arms is described in Article 5 of the Statutes as "Azure St. Michael holding a sword and scales standing on a bridge all argent".
Trilj is an old town on river Cetina; since antiquity there was a bridge called Pons Tiluri or Tilurium. The modern bridge, featured on the coat of arms, was built only in 1851. St. Michael is the patron saint of the town.

The coat of arms of Trilj is in blue, on a silver bridge there is a silver figure of St. Saint Michael holding a sword and scales. St. Mihovil is the patron saint of the city, and Trilj has been an important bridge over Cetina since pre-Roman times, in Roman times it was called Pons Tiluri.

Košute Local Community

The village of Košute, territorially part of the Town of Trilj, issued a contest for a coat of arms and a flag on 30 April 2008. It seems that by now no design was adopted following that contest.
