The symbols of Velika Kopanica are prescribed by Decision Odluka o donošenju grba i zastave općine Velika Kopanica, adopted on 8 April 2008 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 6 May 2008 in the County official gazette Službeni vjesnik Brodsko-posavske županije, No. 6.
The symbols are described in the Municipality Statutes Statut općine Velika Kopanica, adopted on 15 July 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 23 July 2009 in Službeni vjesnik Brodsko-posavske županije, No. 9.

The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka, and approved by the Ministry of Administration / Central State Office for Administration before 2006.

The flag is prescribed in proportions 1:2, green with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.
However, the flag actually in use (images on Croatian TV, March 2009; photo) has the coat of arms bordered white.

The coat of arms is "Or a chariot wheel argent inflamed gules".
The inflamed chariot wheel refers to St. Elias, the patron saint of the municipality, usually pictured as riding in an inflamed chariot.

Quoting the Bible (Hebrew - English Bible, according to the Masoretic Text and the 1917 JPS Edition), 2 Kings, Chapter 2:

1 And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah by a whirlwind into heaven, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
[...]
8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.
[...]
11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, which parted them both assunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried: 'My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and the horsemen thereof!' And he saw him no more; and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
