Flag of Severin

The symbols of Severin are prescribed by Decision Odluka o opisu i uporabi grba i zastave Općine Severin, adopted on 1 June 2011 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 17 June 2011 in the County official gazette Županijski glasnik Bjelovarsko-bilogorske županije, No. 6, superseding the former symbols, which were not approved by the central authorities.
The symbols are described in Article 7 of the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Severin, adopted on 18 March 2013 and published on 27 March 2013 in the Municipality official gazette Službeni glasnik Općine Severin, No. 2 (text).

The symbols, designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company from Rijeka, were approved by the Ministry of Administration on 5 September 2011.

The flag (photo, photos, photos) is in proportions 1:2, light blue with the municipal coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.
A "flag of honour" is also prescribed, but the details are not provided.

Coat of arms of Severin

[Municipality coat of arms] image by Željko Heimer, 21 May 2012

The coat of arms is "Azure on a base vert a cannon sable and in the chief two eight-pointed spurs-rowels or".
The original Croatian text makes it ambigous whether it talks about whole spurs with rowels or not. The drawings make it clear that rowels are meant - that is, mullets pierced, although the points are rounded and the lines are going through some of the points - making it rather a representation of a "real" rowel rather than a simple heraldic mullet.
The symbolic of the arms is provided in the Decision. The cannon stands for the Severin Uprising, while the spurs symbolize the two villages of the municipality (Severin and Orovac). The Severin Uprising broke out in 1754/55, when the Military Border soldiers raised against new restrictions imposed by the Court in Vienna.

Flag, coat of arms and two ceremonial flags of Severin, 2008-2011, unconfirmed reconstructions of the flags

The first symbols of Severin are prescribed by Statutory Decision Statutarna odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Severin, adopted on 2 September 2008 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 5 September 2008 in the County official gazette Županijski glasnik Bjelovarsko-bilogorske županije, No. 12.

The flag is described in Article 7 of the Decision as follows:

The flag of the Municipality of Severin is rectangular, light green; the ratio of the flag's length to its width is 2:1, in accordance with legal prescriptions. The flag is bordered with a golden wattle and a fringe at the bottom. In the middle of the flag, at the crossing point of the diagonals is the coat of arms of the Municipality of Severin, bordered golden/yellow ribbon. Above the coat of arms is the word "Općina", and below the coat of arms the word "Severin". The words "Općina Severin" are inscribed in the same typeface (Old English) as used for the name of the famous Severin beverage (Severinski viskey).

The coat of arms is described in Article 7 of the Decision as follows:

The coat of arms of the Municipality of Severin is made of a shield shape that includes a fortress with two towers bordered with water and a raising bridge as the historical symbol of Severin. Above the towers are following symbols: in the centre a dove (symbol of peace) with a bunch of grapes (symbol of vineyards) in its beak, on both sides of it is a wheat ear (symbol of cereals), and behind the dove a sun with red fields (symbol of cereal producing fields) and above the sun, the blue sky.

The ceremonial flag is described in Article 7 of the Decision as follows:

The ceremonial flag of the Municipality of Severin is light green, 80 cm x 150 cm in size, made of highly glossy atlas silk. In the middle of the flag, at the crossing point of the diagonals is the coat of arms of the Municipality of Severin. Above the coat of arms is the word "Općina", and below the coat of arms the word "Severin". The words "Općina Severin" are inscribed in the same typeface (Old English) as used for the name of the famous Severin beverage (Severinski viskey). The flag is bordered golden yellow and the tails with golden fringe. The ceremonial flag has a kit for carrying it, an ornamental spear and a postament.
