In an episode (“Kung-fu Kapers”) of much-loved 1970’s
British comedy series The Goodies, Bill Oddie reveals his mastery of
the ancient Lancastrian martial art of Ecky Thump, which
involves hitting people on the head with a black pudding. Towards the end of
the programme he leads a revolt of Ecky Thump masters aimed at overthrowing
parliament. They are seen marching uder
a red flag featuring a greyish-brown cloth cap
underneath which are two crossed black puddings.
