Description

Municipality of Hermigua has two flags, both with a ratio of 2:3. No.1 (from [ebz07], p.118) is a yellow-blue-green vertical tricolour. No.2 is a yellow-blue-green vertical tricolour with the coat of arms in the middle of the blue stripe; I spotted this flag at the town hall of Hermigua on 11 February 2010.

The flag was adopted by the Canarian Government on 23 October 2000, which had been published in BOC of 3 November 2000.

The shield is divided per pale. The dexter side shows in a red field a papal tiara, superimposing two crossed keys in gold and silver. The sinister side shows in a green field three silver creeks, uniting one another, and a building at the left edge. The shield has a silver bordure superimposed by alternating four black kettles and four green crossed bars of sugar cane. The shield is topped by a count’s coronet. Meaning: The dexter side is symbolizing the oration of St. Peter to whom a nearby chapel in a convent of the order of Dominicans is dedicated. The creeks on the sinister side are flowing through the valley. The building is an image of a former sugar mill. The crown symbolizes the rule of the Counts of La Gomera.
