Wriezen City

Wriezen is a small city in Märkisch-Oderland County in the Northeast of Brandenburg. It is the biggest competitor of Seelow for the touristic title of "capital of the Oderbruch" (unflooded). The fields along the Oder river with Adonis (German: Adonisröschen) are well worth a visit.

Wriezen Flag

The flag is quartered of yellow and blue, derived from colours of the quarters of the arms. In fact, the Brandenburg law on civic flags requires that only striped flags in varying proportions, with or without arms are to be used.

Meaning:
Wriezen was ruled by the Margraves of Brandenburg since the 12th century. It was called a city in 1303 and a market town in 1320. The city rights were officially granted in 1337. Trade, brewing and fishery had been the main business lines. In the 19th century brown coal mining, an iron foundry, a machine factory, a cement plant and an agricultural school were established. The charges of the upper quarters are referring to the past (city rights and fishery), those in the lower quarters to later times (pen for school and wrench for industries). The inescutcheon displays the arms of Brandenburg.
