Description

Hettstedt is in Mansfelder Land county and has 20,000 inhabitants. The flag is red-white with the arms and was introduced in 1994. The arms show [St.] Jacob the Pilgrim, the patron of the city. Source: Günther 1996a. I drew and coloured the arms as they are shown on the city website. The illustration in Günther 1996a has an additional scroll saying 'Hettstedt' above the pilgrim.

The white-red shield held by St. Jacob shows the arms of the counts of Querfurt, the quartered shield those of Mansfeld-Querfurt, the lines that ruled the area until the 16th century. See also the arms and flags of the Kyffhäuserkreis, Mansfelder Land and Merseburg-Querfurt counties and of the city of Querfurt.
