Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, issuant from base an embattled tower Or masoned Sable, crowned by a pinnacled (German: mit Fialen) façade Or with port Azure, in port a jay Or in pale, accompanied by billets Or.
Meaning:
Before the city used a seal with the lion of Nassau, issuant from a tower. In the 15th century the lion was misinterpreted as a jay (German: Häher) thus being canting, and above the tower a pinnacled façade was added. In the 17th century the bird appears solely on the seals as symbol of the town. The embattled tower had been Argent before (as depicted by Stadler) but is currently blazoned Or. Blue and orange as well as the billets are taken from the arms of the Counts of Nassau.
The arms were approved in 1908 and confirmed in 1934 and are based on a 15th century seal.
