Coat of Arms

In a red shield is a silver (= white) gate consistung of a gable between two embattled towers. The open gate is black and has a golden (= yellow) portcullis, superimposed by a lying inescutcheon quarterly divided into golden (= yellow) and red with a blue disc in the centre.
Meaning:
According to source the colours in the inescutcheon are those of the Bishopric of Hildesheim. The "blue stone" is first mentioned in a chronicle in 1492, probably related to a stone at the gate of the townhall. The new version is in use since 1939.

The coat of arms were approved by Oberpräsident of Prussian province of Hannover in 1939.
