Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a red shield is a silver (=white) castle. The castle has five towers of the same colour all with blue roofs and black windows. The broad central tower has a trapezium shaped roof crowned golden (=yellow). Upon the wall is a black Gothic "M" (for Münden). In the black open port is a red shield bearing a golden (=yellow) rampant lion (according to source: armed and tongued blue). The port is shaped like a clover leaf.
Meaning:
According to source the towers with port and lion are known from seals since 1260, shortly after the city gained privileges from duke Otto of Braunschweig-Lüneburg in 1247. The current form turned out in the 17th century and the crown and the "M" had been added "recently", which could be 19th century or early 20th century.

Hedemünden Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, a serifed initial "H" Or.
Meaning:
Hedemünden was first mentioned in the 11th century. It had city rights between 1645 and 1931. On 1 January 1973 the municipality was incorporated into Hann. Münden city. The initial already appeared on a local seal from the 16th century, placed onto a Renaissance shield with a circumscription. Seals from the 18th added a crest coronet. The tinctures in the 19th century had been silver with a red initial. The current tinctures were fixed in the local Hauptsatzung before 1967.
