On 22 October 2006 the communes of Aquila, Campo (Blenio), Ghirone, Olivone und Torre merged to the new commune of Blenio (see below). The new commune doesn't cover all of the Blenio valley, that's why there was criticism from the other communes of the adoption of the valley's name.

There was also much criticism for the new emblem. It's a non-heraldic depiction of a topographical map, which shows the Brenno river and the communes' position as yellow dots. The heraldic blazoning is impossible.

The flag of Campo (Blenio) is canting with its camp tent (in Italian tenda da campo). Alludes to the passage of the Romans in the valley. Campo was a important encampment place of which vestiges are still visible today.

Ghirone (until 21 October 2006)

[The ploughshare points to the main occupation of the inhabitants, agriculture. The colours and the eagle come from the emblem of the neighboring village of Aquila, to which Ghirone belonged until 1853]
