Description of the flag

Salt Spring Island is one of the Gulf Islands between Vancouver and Victoria Island. There is a very strong and growing environmentally concerned movement on the island. They have created, for example, the Salt Spring dollar which is tradable locally. It is used as we in England use what we call LETS (Local Economy Trading System) currency units to barter for goods and services in a local area.

The movement recently I think 2002/2003) created the Salt Spring flag to symbolise their activities and their concerns (green for the environment and trees and blue for the water - the tress and the water being such a vital resource to the area's economy.
