Municipality

The municipality of Rio de Campo (6,195 inhabitants in 2010; 50,620 ha) is located 275 km north-west of Florianópolis.

Rio de Campo was first settled in 1916 by Antônio Haro Varela, coming from the Serra Geral. In 1922, Luiz Bertoli Senior was allowed to survey the area; in 1936, he built a road connecting Rio de Campo to Taió, which boosted the colonization process.
The district of Rio de Campo was established within the municipality of Blumenau by Municipal Law No. 194 promulgated on 25 August 1955. Rio de Campo was elevated a municipality by State Law No. 800 promulgated on 20 December 1961 and inaugurated on 29 December 1961.

The flag of Rio de Campo is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 410 promulgated on 5 September 1977.

Article 1.
The flag of the municipality of Rio de Campo shall have the characteristics presented below.
Green represents greening fields, forests, and reforestation in progress.
White represents peace, order and law, and people's hospitality.
The map represents the territorial extension and the physic format of the municipality of Rio Campo.
The two stripes represent the forests and greening fields that predominate in the municipality of Rio de Campo.
The white stripe represents peace and order and law reigning in the municipality, which make the inhabitants very united.

The flag of Rio de Campo is further prescribed by Municipal Law No. 414 promulgated on 18 October 1977.

Article 2.
The flag of the municipality of Rio de Campo, of 30 units in length on 20 units in width, is composed of a blue stripe and another green, of equal size and placed horizontally; of a white lozenge placed in the flag's center, charged with the map of the municipality superimposed with the municipal coat of arms.

The coat of arms of Rio de Campo is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 409 promulgated on 5 September 1977.

Article 1.
The coat of arms of Rio de Campo shall have the following heraldic characteristics.
A crown, meaning the power of the municipality and its economical force.
A waterfall, meaning tourism in progress in the municipality, as well as hydro-electrical potential to be explored.
A chimney, meaning indsutrial potential in progress.
A shield, meaning protection and safety granted by the municipality to everyone against everything.
A plow, representing agriculture in great development, being a main source of income for the municipality.
A log and a tree, meaning timber industry, in exploration and watch for the development of the municipality.
