Municipality

The municipality of Pomerode (34,010 inhabitants in 2020; 21,430 ha) is located 160 km north-west of Florianópolis.

Pomerode, self-styled Brazil's most German municipality, was established by Pomeranian immigrants, therefore its name and the griffin in the municipal arms.
Municipal Law No. 2,251 promulgated on 1 September 2020 established German as the municipality's secondary official language. Municipal Law No. 2,907 promulgated on 22 May 2017 established Pomeranian as the municipality's co-official language - with Portuguese, Brazil's national language.

Description of the Flag

A horizontal triband, 1-3-1 blue-white-blue, with the municipal arms in the centre.

The flag of Pomerode was originally prescribed by Municipal Law No. 202 promulgated on 5 December 1969.

Article 2.
The flag is charged in the center with the official coat of arms of the municipality in its heraldic colors, as prescribed by Law No. 74 promulgated on 18 February 1964, being with two stripes, one blue symbolizing love and the other white symbolizing peace.

The Law was amended by Municipal Law No. 1,864 promulgated on 27 November 2005.

Article 2.
The flag is charged in the center with the official coat of arms of the municipality in its heraldic colors, as prescribed by Law No. 74 promulgated on 18 February 1964, being with two blue stripes in the upper and lower parts symbolizing love and the other white symbolizing peace.

The coat of arms of Pomerode is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 74 promulgated on 18 February 1964.

Article 1.
The municipal emblem of Pomerode is composed of a shield.
§1. The shield is surmounted by a "masoned crown" symbolizing administrative unity and municipal safety.
§2. The shield is divided into two equal parts described as follows
I - The shield's upper left features a "griffin", a fantasy animal.
II - Next to the division, the field is subdivided: on top, on a white field the symbol of handicraft, beneath, on a red field, a white industrial wheel symbolizing the municipality's main industry, porcelain.
III - In base on the left, on a red field, colonists' typical and original tools.
IV - In base on the right, on a blue field a Brazilian harpy eagle symbolizing fauna.
§3. Beneath the shield on a scroll the writing "Município de Pomerode" surrounded by years "1863", onset of colonization, and "21/01/1959", for the inauguration of the municipality established by Law No. 380 promulgated on 19 December 1958.
