Description of the Flag

The flag of Gaspar is a vertical triband, yellow-white-yellow, with the municipal coat of arms on the center. The yellow stripes stand for gold and the white for peace. The coat of arms was adopted by municipal law no. 160 of 23 December 1959. The keys in dexter chief are for St. Peter the Apostle, patron of the original parish, the blue bend sinister represents the Rio Itajaí Açu cutting across the municipality, and the factory in sinister base is for industry. The green field of the shield is for the lushness of the fields and agricultural abundance. The shield is surrounded by branches of rice and sugar cane. The scroll is inscribed with the name of the municipality flanked by the dates of the founding of the settlement of São Pedro Apóstolo (1861) and of the creation of the municipality (1934).

The coat of arms of Gaspar is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 160 promulgated on 23 December 1959.

Article 2.

In chief two crossed keys or, evoking Apostle St. Peter, the municipality's patron saint. In base three tools gules (red), a hoe, a pan and an axe, indicating rural activities at the origin of prosperity. Laterally on the left fructed rice, and on the right, sugarcanes, the two most important local crops. Beneath the shield a scroll gules a map of the municipality surrounded by its fundamental dates - 186x (25 April, creation of the district) and 1934 (17 February, political and administrative emancipation). The shield surmounted by a five-pointed star, indicating the rank of municipality seat, in the colors of the flag of Santa Catarina.

Although the Law does not appear to have been amended, the design of the coat of arms was subsequently changed. The agricultural tools were substituted by a factory with a smoking chimney, representing industry, now the municipality' main source of income. The star surmounting the shield was substituted by the usual mural crown.
