About the Flag

The municipality of Pitanga (30,635 inhabitants in 2018; 166,374 ha) is located 350 km north-west of Curitiba.

Pitanga was named for the nearby Serra de Pitanga, referring to "pitanga", the fruit of the Brazilian cherry ("pitangueira"). The place was settled in 1914 by Albino Hey, Adão and José Schon, João Berger and Bernando Bassani, coming from Rio de Patos (municipality of Prudentópolis), who were joined four years later by Frederico Repula, Miguel Hulek and Fernando Malko.
The municipality of Pitanga was established by Decree Law No. 199 promulgated on 30 December 1943 and inaugurated on 28 January 1944.

The flag and arms of Pitanga are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 526 promulgated on 20 August 1991.

Article 1.
The flag of the municipality of Pitanga shall be rectangular, in proportions 14 units in width on 20 modules in length, pursuant with Article 5 of Federal Law No. 5,700 promulgated on 1 September 1971, with the following characteristics:
a) The flag is composed up of two quadrilaterals of different dimensions. The quadrilateral on the host side, yellow with a pine proper, corresponds to the third part of the flag's length.
b) The greater quadrilateral contains nine equal horizontal stripes in sequence, starting at the top, red (pitanga), blue and white.

The flag was originally prescribed by Municipal Law No. 3 promulgated on 17 July 1967

Article 1.
The colors of the flag of Pitanga shall be pitanga, blue and white.

Article 2.
The flag, in official dimensions, shall have for coat of arms a bottle green stylized pine on a yellow background, which forms a quadrilateral corresponding to one third of the panel, on the left, the main quadrilateral being formed of horizontal stripes, pitanga, blue and white, repeated three times.
